The Family’s New Princess… Julz

Ivy League Empire is proud to present our newest artist: Julz! Julz is a small time artist from Zimbabwe, and has recently moved to East London, South Africa. The 21 year old is pitching off her music career while studying law at Fort Hare University. She makes her own music, and has even been featured on a couple of tracks from JOE’s mixtape.

Julz grew up surrounded by music. Both her mom and step-dad sang, she also had other family members who sang, including aunts and cousins.Spending time singing with her parents led to a lot of musical influences in her life. Singing with her mother included Boyz II Men, Celine Dione, and Brian McKnight; singing with her dad included a lot of Bob Marley, and mostly Reggae tunes. Julz started singing around the age of 7, and she spent most of her life with a tune coming out of her mouth, she could always be found singing. Julz was in her primary school choir, as well as her Form 1’s junior choir and junior ensemble, and then she was in their senior choir and senior ensemble. She spent her teenage years going to plenty school choir competitions, and has done solo pieces as well, her first being at 14. She was the youngest student in her senior ensemble, and has won multiple awards and trophies for her competitions in both the choir and the ensemble. When Julz transferred schools in high school, she took a break from singing and started to learn piano.

Julz started singing again after she graduated high school, putting a lot of hard work into it because of how little she had sung in years. At first, she wasn’t going to pursue anything with her singing, wanting to focus on schooling and her career. However, during her first year in university she became more invigorated with her singing, and started making small videos of her singing covers of various songs. This led to her making a video with one of her friends, and when it was posted comments started pouring in, and she started getting noticed by a lot of locals musically.  People started asking her for original content, which led her to the point at where she is at.

This process has been a struggle, but it is one that Julz is proud of. She has worked very hard to get to where she is, and is very excited to continue forward. Making music in countries such as Zimbabwe is completely different from making music in America. America holds a lot of weight in the music industry, most of the big production companies and record labels are centered here in America. With that being said, it is a dream for many artists in other countries to get noticed in America. Julz expressed that, “Everyone is trying to make it, so it’s almost like a cliche now in my country.” And despite that, Julz is determined to use her talent to take off. Look out for JOE’s  Single “Bring You Back” featuring Julz. Julz is here and ready to ‘wow the crowd’ with her stunning voice so watch out, here she comes!
